Held in Camp Washington-Carver, a five day mountaintop gathering of musicians and friends with contests, concerts, workshops, square dances, camping and a hymn-sing. West Virginia masters are presented to an audience of more than 3000 musicians and string band music lovers from around the world.
Over the history of this festival, more than 20 foreign countries and 40 of the 50 states have been represented, with many returning year after year to this much-loved festival.
The Appalachian String Band Festival is looking for traditional bands to play for the square dances. Bands must have a fiddler that has played for old-time square dances; a bass player is a requirement as well. Bands will receive free camping or admission to the festival, and be eligible to compete in the contests.

Big things are happening to our Redwood Dulcimer Day this year! We have moved the our event from Boomeria in the mountains near Bonny Doon to the Methodist Church in Aptos near the ocean. Boomeria has been our home for the past 11 years and this change was not taken lightly and was based on considerable input from our faculty, volunteers and attendees.
The new venue allows us to hold our workshops and playing circles inside classrooms as well as outdoors, thereby eliminating some of the evening temperature and mosquito problems. Because the site is level, there will be fewer mobility challenges for some of our guests. Also, we will now be holding the faculty concert at the same location and on the day of the workshops. This means that you will be able to attend the workshops and the concert all on the same day. There are a number of very nice nearby motels and restaurants for those people coming to RDD from other areas. Finally, access to a very nice kitchen should allow us to provide an improved meal experience for the guests.
